A headlamp for your child can be an ideal tool to support this thirst for adventure. Bright light even in the dark - LED headlamps for children
The youngest children like to discover the world with their eyes and with the right lamp they always have their own light with them. Good headlamps for children rely on innovative LED technology. This is not only because LEDs consume around 90 % less power than conventional light sources with the same lumen output, but also because the compact shape makes the headlamps very light. The weight of a lamp plays an important role, especially for children. If the headlamp is too heavy, it not only constantly slips off the head or forwards into the eyes, but can also quickly become very uncomfortable to wear.
Children's headlamps: what matters
What characterises a good headlamp for children? This is what you should look for when buying a children's headlamp:
- Comfort: children are generally much more sensitive than adults and can easily become frustrated by disruptive factors such as uncomfortable or excessively large headbands. Soft and adjustable headbands that guarantee a perfect fit and open automatically when under strain are a good idea. The headlamp should also be lightweight to prevent head and neck pain. Ideally, the weight of the lamp should not exceed 80 grams.
- Robustness: A robust design is a must for all children's headlamp models. Children are usually very fearless when running around and exploring, which could damage a lamp. We therefore recommend that children's headlamps have at least IP44 water and dust resistance. This means that even when exploring in the rain, the lamp is splash-proof and cannot be damaged if dropped on the forest floor.
- Adequate luminosity and range: For children, it is sufficient for the lamp to have a maximum luminous flux of 40 lumens. This is enough light for children to use the lamp to read in the dark.
As a rule, children understand quite quickly that they should not look directly into the headlamp or flashlight for children, but they could still dazzle others with the lamp. For this reason, Ledlenser children's headlamps are equipped with optics with a reduced glare effect to protect children's sensitive eyes. Nevertheless, make sure that your child uses the headlamp or flashlight under the direct supervision of an adult.
It is often sufficient for children's models to have a light range of up to 10 metres, so they can use the headlamp when camping in the garden or for other outdoor activities.
- Cool functions: Good headlamps for children should also have several light modes. For example, a dimming function can be helpful when going on a treasure hunt in the dark. Additional flashing and colour functions, such as red or blue light, can improve visibility in the dark. To save energy, Ledlenser children's headlamps switch off automatically after 20 minutes. With the integrated clip, they can also be attached to a school bag or clothing without a headband.
